Exceptional Holiday Cookies
(Sarah uses her Grandma Jane’s secret recipe, which pre-dates 1945 – even the exact date is secret!)
Welcome to Sarah’s Springerle business. Each December, Sarah makes Exceptional Springerle Holiday Cookies in her kitchen using her Grandma Jane’s secret recipe. Each batch is freshly hand-made after you place your order.
Springerle are square white holiday cookies with an impression molded into each one.
The story of Springerle begins in the 14th century when they were made in German-speaking areas of Europe. Springerle means “little knight” in German. One source says the original impressions were hand-carved wood depicting horses and their riders.
Today, the hand-carved molds are treasured heirlooms passed from one generation to the next.
Ingredients: Flour, sugar, eggs, anise seed, trace butter.
Made in a home kitchen, not inspected by The Michigan Department of Agriculture.
